A Shotgun Start, and a Scholarship on the Line: The 37th Capital City Golf Classic

On Monday, September 28, one horn sounds at 10:30 AM at North Ridge Country Club and about 140 golfers head for their tee boxes at the same moment. We have set that same scene every fall since 1989. The reason we set it has not changed either.
This is the 37th Annual Capital City Golf Classic, our club's signature fundraiser, and registration is open now.
What the Day Looks Like
Registration opens at 8:45 AM. Shotgun start at 10:30 AM. North Ridge is a Platinum Club of America rated facility at 6612 Falls of Neuse Road, and the field is capped at 36 teams, accepted first come, first served.
There is a raffle during the tournament, prizes for the winning teams, and the kind of morning where business gets done between shots and nobody minds.
Where the Money Goes
The Classic raises over $30,000 in a typical year, and nearly $400,000 to date. Those proceeds fund two things.
The first is the Robert N. Styres Scholarship Fund, established by our club in 2000. It grants four-year college scholarships to Wake County public high school graduates who have demonstrated need and overcome obstacles. Not always the highest GPA in the room. Often the student who had the most in the way and kept going anyway. The fund carries the name of Robert N. Styres, a member of this club who spent his life serving this community.
The second is our Community Projects, the year-round local service work our members organize and show up for.
How a Business Can Sponsor
Sponsorship is how most of that money gets raised, and there are three levels. Every level includes a complimentary team of four golfers.
Gold, $2,750. Company logo on the official on-site banner, name or logo in any printed or online media, and name or logo on six tee box signs. Includes one complimentary team plus mulligan, red tee and raffle packages for each of your golfers.
Silver, $2,000. Name or logo in any printed or online media, and name or logo on three tee box signs. Includes one complimentary team.
Bronze, $1,500. Name or logo on one tee box sign. Includes one complimentary team.
If a sponsorship is not the right fit this year, there are other ways in: donate a raffle item, donate a team prize, or make a cash gift.
All donations go to the Rotary Club of the Capital City Foundation, a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organization, EIN 58-1634198. Contributions are acknowledged and are tax-deductible to the extent permitted by applicable law. Please consult your tax advisor on the deductibility of your contribution.
Why We Serve
A round of golf is a pleasant morning. A four-year scholarship is a different life. That gap is the whole point of the day.
The Four-Way Test asks whether what we do is beneficial to all concerned. A tournament that funds a local student's degree, sends volunteers into local projects, and puts Raleigh business owners on a course together for a morning is about as clean an answer to that question as we get. Service Above Self does not always look like heavy lifting. Sometimes it looks like a tee time.
