The One-Of-A-Kind Transformation

Michelle Drabek

From volunteer to Executive Director

On the morning of April 21, 2026, we had the privilege of hearing from Michelle Drabek, the Executive Director of Made 4 Me. Her journey is as meaningful as the work she now leads. Michelle began as a volunteer in 2018, back when the organization operated out of garages, and steadily grew into leadership through hands-on service, humility, and a deep commitment to others. Her path from stay-at-home mother to Executive Director reflects something Rotary values deeply: Service Above Self, not as a slogan, but as a lived experience.

Her story mirrors Rotary’s mission in a powerful way. Rotary is built on individuals who see a need and step forward, not because they must, but because they care. Michelle’s leadership embodies that same spirit. She did not arrive with a title first, she earned it through service, collaboration, and a belief that small acts, done consistently, can transform lives.

Make Abilities Possible

Made 4 Me is a local nonprofit dedicated to creating custom adaptive equipment for individuals with disabilities, completely free of charge. Using durable corrugated board, the team designs and builds one-of-a-kind solutions tailored to each individual’s physical and therapeutic needs. From chairs and desks to mobility aids and custom stair systems, every piece is crafted through collaboration with families and therapists.

The organization has grown steadily since becoming a nonprofit in 2017, now serving families, schools, and individuals across a three-hour radius of Raleigh. With over 800 devices created and more than 3,000 lives impacted. Their work aligns seamlessly with Rotary’s commitment to improving lives, supporting families, and strengthening communities through practical, compassionate action.

Together We Transform

Families often face long wait times, high costs, and equipment that does not meet their needs. Made 4 Me steps into that gap, not with mass-produced solutions, but with thoughtful, personalized design. Each project begins with listening, continues through collaboration, and ends with something that transforms lifestyle and restores independence.

A child can sit on the couch beside their parent for the first time. A young girl can access to her playroom and build strength through movement. A walker enables a child to walk independently with confidence within months. These are not just projects, they are transformations. Rotary’s values of service, inclusion, and make lasting impact were reflected in every example.

Why we do what we do

At its core, Made 4 Me's work is about connection. It is about a sibling sharing a space, a classroom becoming safer, or a volunteer discovering purpose through service. These moments remind us why service matters.

Rotarians understand this instinctively. We serve because we believe in a better version of the world, one built through compassion, effort, and shared responsibility. Organizations like Made 4 Me bring that belief into tangible form. They show us that when people come together with creativity and care, even something as simple as corrugated board can become a tool for dignity, independence, and hope.

You Are Invited

Made 4 Me's workshop welcomes volunteers of all ages and backgrounds. Engineers, tinkerers, students, and curious first-timers all find a role. You might leave with glue on your hands, but you will also leave knowing you made a difference.

Rotary offers that same opportunity on a broader scale. Whether through partnerships, volunteering, or simply sharing the story, there are countless ways to get involved. So consider this your invitation. Come build something, support something, or simply show up. Because sometimes the smallest effort, combined with the right group of people, creates something far greater than expected.
