Two Candidates for Council of State

February 20, 2024 -- The Rotary Club of the Capital City was pleased to welcome two candidates running in the upcoming primary election for North Carolina Council of State.


Andrew Marcus (above) is a Republican candidate for North Carolina Insurance Commissioner. Andrew is an attorney in private practice, and a volunteer firefighter in Orange County. Andrew started his career as a prosecutor, where he worked hand and hand with law enforcement. He has worked as an insurance regulator and personally led investigations of insurance company misconduct. Andrew comes from eleven generations of North Carolinians. An ancestor of his signed the Mecklenburg Declaration. He and his wife, Sophie, have two sons.


Luke Farley (below) is a Republican candidate for North Carolina Labor Commissioner. Luke grew up in Onslow County and lives in Raleigh with his wife and their two young boys. Luke is a graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill and Wake Forest University School of Law. In 2022, he was named Volunteer Lawyer of the Year by the Triangle Chapter of the Republican National Lawyers Association. Luke has been endorsed by former Labor Commissioner Cherie Berry. He is a partner at the Raleigh law firm of Ellis & Winters, where he practices construction law.
